In Chemisrty, I learned a lot of useful information. I noticed that I usually learned the most from labs. Two labs that I retained a lot from are the Iron-Copper Molar Tango Lab and the States of Matter Lab.
Iron-Copper Molar Tango
In the Iron-Copper Molar Tango Lab, steel wool was added to a mixture of sulfate pentahyrdrate and water and filtered with a filter paper to then be placed in a drying oven. During the reaction, the steel wool turned red and broke apart to look like eraser shavings. This was a single replacement reaction where the iron reacted with the copper sulfate to produce iron sulfate. After the lab, many dimensional analysis problems were solved, such as finding the theoretical products to compare them to the actual products. I think this lab helped me a lot because not only could I practice dimensional analysis, but I could see how a chemist would use it.
States of Matter Lab
In the States of Matter Lab, many different experiments were conducted using the forms of H2O and CO2. We melted ice, froze water, slid CO2 across the table, we even heated up water vapor to burn paper! I thought this was a really interesting and helpful lab because it taught me about the properties of the different states of matter and how they could be used to benefit us.
